I can hardly believe December is upon us! Soon we will be performing our Christmas program for you and celebrating the reason for the season-Jesus! Below is a recap of this past week with letter G, pictures and important reminders.

Themes: Giraffes, Gorillas, Gingerbread (Five Senses) and God!

Devotion: The class has memorized our monthly bible verse from Luke 2: 10-11 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of the great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.” We will recite this verse during our Christmas Program as well.

Reading/Drawing: We read the following books throughout the week-Giraffes Can’t Dance, Gorilla Be Good, The Gingerbread Pirate, and The First Christmas Story. In our drawing journals we drew four pictures of things that started with G.

HWT/ZooPhonics: We learned to identify, sound and write G-start with a big curve down, up little line, stop- lift crayon, and across for little line. The Zoophonic for G is “Gordo Gorilla says ‘Guh’ with the motion being pealing a banana.

Science: We had several great science lessons this week. We made a “gorilla” craft for our Creation Book and learned some interesting facts about the gorilla. Did you know that gorillas are shy animals and not very aggressive at all? We learned about the gorilla’s size, habitat and primary food source. The class also reviewed our five senses (gingerbread sandpaper craft with cinnamon stick –touch, sight, smell and hear) and afterwards ate a yummy gingerbread cookie (taste).

Math: We continue to practice counting by 1’s and 10’s daily during circle time. We also focused on sequencing and patterns during centers.

We will not introduce a new letter for the remainder of the month as we will be hard at work finishing up several super cute Christmas crafts and practicing for our Christmas program!
