Devotion:  In our devotions this week, we continued to learn our bible verse ( it’s a long one) and talked about loving God, loving others and what it looks like to love your neighbor as yourself.  We also talked about two strange friends, the rhinoceros and the red billed oxpecker. Ask your children what the red billed oxpecker does for a rino!

Books We Read: My Little R Book, Rosie Rabbit’s Radish, Heartprints, Happy Valentine’s Day Little Critter, Pete The Cat Valentine’s Day Is Cool, and Marjorie’s Valentine..

Science: We learned all about a rainbow and how it actually forms. They learned all the colors in the rainbow and in the order that they appear. Did you know that a rainbow occurs when there is rain and sun? Also, a rainbow is a full circle but since it hits the ground it looks like a semi circle. Ask them to sing the song for you that taught us the color order of the rainbow! We did a super cool science experiment that actually made “water walk”. Ask them how we did it. This experiment taught them about primary and secondary colors and when the experiment was finished, the colors made a rainbow! See picture below.

Math: We counted by 1’s and 10’s. We are learning simple addition and subtraction during circle time with books we read, the calendar, the marble jar, and in various center time activities too.

HWT: A big line, a small curve and a little slant line make the letter R. We used the HWT manipulatives to help us learn how to form the letter R and finished the week by writing it. They highlighted the upper case and lower case R in a poem about a rainbow.

Drawing: The children drew pictures of things that begin with the letter R. They drew everything from rainbows to robots! They also drew a rainbow and then painted it using proper color order!

Ms Julie came in to play restaurant with us today. She was the waitress at lunch and talked to us about manners! We had fun! See picture below!

Our Valentines day was fast, fun, and filling…… we had a great day! We decorated our Valentine bags and then passed out Valentines to our friends,  read Valentines books, had chapel  and center time, celebrated June’s birthday, and finished the day with a yummy treat!
