Devotion:  We read a devotion, called Oyster Magic, which was about oysters and how they make something beautiful (a pearl) out of something uncomfortable (a grain of sand). We also read devotions about an Otter and an Owl,  which showed us who God wants us to be through reveling their outstanding traits!

Books We Read: My Little O Book, Olive The Octopus’s Day Of Juggling, Owl Moon, Thanks For Thanksgiving, A Turkey For Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving Is For Giving Thanks.

Science: The children learned a lot of interesting facts about two ocean animals, the oyster and the octopus. Did you know an octopus has 3 hearts? They also learned about otters and actually got to see one crack open a clam using a rock he rested on his belly on the Smartboard. It was super cool – ask them to tell you about it. They also learned about owls and how they can’t digest bones and fur so ask them to tell you what happens to it! Here is a hint if they need one……owl pellets!

Math: We counted by 1’s using the calendar and 10’s using our 100th day jar. We also played math games on the Smartboard, where they are learning simple addition and how to subitize.

HWT:  It takes two big curves form the letter O. The children formed the letter O in many different ways with our HWT manipulatives. We finished the week by tracing it. They also highlighted the upper case and lower case O in a poem.

Drawing:  The children drew pictures of things that start with the letter O, drawing everything from an orange to an octopus.

We talked about Thanksgiving and why we celebrate it, they learned a lot! We reinforced it with songs ( we will sing them for you at the class party) and some really cute crafts, which will be sent home on Tuesday. Please let me know if your child will not be here Tuesday so that we can send home crafts on Monday! Thank you!
