Devotion: We talked a lot this week about Kindness. I sent home “Kindness Kisses” with a note about how to use them. Encourage your child to show an act of kindness to someone and leave with them a “kindness kiss”. We also read a devotion on Cuddly Kittens which taught us to show love and gentleness to others.
Books We Read: My Little K Book, Kangaroo’s Kazoo, When God Made You, When You Give A Mouse A Brownie, The Kissing Hand, and A Pocket Full Of Kisses.
Science: The children learned some interesting facts about Kangaroos. Did you know a kangaroo can jump 30 feet in just one hop? I showed them just how long that is and then they tried to jump that far! The longest jump was right about 4 feet! I took some fun pictures and will email them to you!:) We also got to see Kangaroos in action on the Smartboard!
Math: The children counted by 1’s and 10’s. We are getting closer and closer to 100th day……about 15 more days! We also learned how much many inches are in a foot and walked out how far a Kangaroo can jump. Then we all tried to jump that far! They also played a game to determine the difference between length and width.
HWT: A big line, and two little slant lines make the letter K. We used the HWT manipulatives to help us learn how to form the letter K, and also practiced writing it a few times. Slant lines are a little more difficult to master, but they are doing great! We highlighted the upper case and lower case K in a poem about kites.
Drawing: We drew pictures of things that begin with K. They drew everything from Kings to Kites. On Monday, I will ask them to draw something they did over the weekend for our kindness project.
As part of our kindness week, we made cards for a little boy in the hospital undergoing cancer treatments who desperately wanted mail. See picture below of Clark and Coleman holding theirs up.
First picture below is the class lined up for the kangaroo jump!
