Themes: Kindness, Koalas and Kangaroos

Reading/Writing/Drawing: We read:Try A Little Kindness, Koala And The Flower, Kangaroo and Cricket and Cuddly Kittens (Devotion).  We completed all Handwriting Without Tears steps and as a result can now write , recognize and sound the letter K. We also drew pictures in our drawing journals of things that  start with these letters…our drawings are becoming much more detailed!

Science/Math/Skills:   We studied many interesting facts about the kangaroo. The class learned that kangaroos are found in Australia…they can’t walk backwards but are great swimmers! Our class had great fun playing “Kangaroo Jump”! We measured how far a kangaroo could jump (30 feet in a single leap!) and then compared how far we could jump in relation! (See the pictures below of our great jumpers:) And last but not least-after a great discussion about kindness and the many ways we can express kindness to others, I challenged the class with a “Kindness Project”. Each child brought home a bag filled with 2 Hershey kisses and the Letter K. The goal was to commit a random act of kindness for a family member and leave behind a kiss and the “K”. We followed this up the next day with illustrating the act they committed in their drawing journals-so sweet!

Devotion: The devotion this week was called “Cuddly Kittens”. We learned that when kittens are born they need extra protection and care from their mothers to stay safe because they are very small and weak. Just like kittens, God knows that we are all weak at times. God wants us to show gentleness and love to one another so we can grow up to be healthy and happy people. Proverbs 15:4a Gentle words bring life and health.

Next week: Letter A, Kid’s Teeth visit , Show and Tell on Thursday. Don’t forget the “Hot Diggity Dog Oyster Roast” LCLC Fundraiser is on March 9th from 3:00 – 5:30pm.

Have a great weekend!! Joyfully, Ms. Erin
