Devotion: We talked about this months bible verse ( The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. Hebrews 13:6) and how we can remember it when we are afraid.  They all agreed that the dark is what makes them most afraid. We did a little experiment with the room dark to show them that their surroundings don’t change just because the room went from light to dark. We also read a true story about a whale of the coast of Maine named Ibis. The story taught us what true friendship looks like, ask your kiddos if they can tell you about Ibis and her friend named Blizzard.

Books We Read: My Little I Book, Iguana On Ice, Inch by Inch, Ladybugs and Other Insects, Ibis, A True Whale Story, and Decibella and Her Six Inch Voice.

Science: We learned all about insects, including their life cycle and all the parts they have. Did you know an inchworm is in the larvae stage and will eventually become a moth? They learned a great song to help them remember all the parts of an insect. Ask them to sing it for you – they know it well! We also watched a few really great videos on insects!

Math: We counted by 1’s and 10’s and used math skills in many different ways in center time and in circle time. We also played math games on the Storybots website. They are learning simple addition and how to subitize.

HWT: A big line and two little lines form the letter I. The children formed the letter I in many different ways with our HWT manipulatives. They finished the week by tracing it. We highlighted the upper case and lower case I in a poem called I is for Inchworm.

Drawing:  The children drew pictures of things that begin with the letter I. We drew everything from igloos to inch worms.
