Hello LCLC families,
I hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween! We had a super fun week going to a “Pumpkin Patch” with Ms. Straw during Music, Fun & Fitness, celebrating Letter U and our first class party! A BIG “Thank You” to our party hosts for making our Harvest Party a blast! We all appreciate everything that went into making this a great party for us!! Below is a recap of our week…
Reading/Writing/Drawing: We read The Umbrella, The Ugly Pumpkin, Umbrella Bird’s Umbrella and Up, Up, Up! It’s Apple Picking Time. We made an umbrella bird for our creation book and played a fun game acting as umbrella birds hiding from the rain. Our ZooPhonic for U is: Umbra, the Umbrella bird says, “Uh”-ask your child to show you! We also learned to write the letter U with a big line down- little curve across the bottom- then big line back up to the top. For our drawing journal, we drew four pictures that start with the letter U. We are learning to add more details to our drawings and to tell about what we drew.
Science: The class learned many interesting facts about the umbrella bird. We know that the umbrella bird lives in Central and South America and has curved feathers on top of their head that cover them from rain like an umbrella, hence the name. They are chunky and awkward in shape which makes it hard for them to fly so they build their nests in low lying branches. As they are not great flyers, they prefer to hop from branch to branch.
Devotion: The class learned our new monthly bible verse-Do not forget to do good to others and share with them what you have.” (Hebrews 13:16) We had many great discussions about the importance of sharing and doing good deeds for others.
Next week our letter focus will be the letter C. Please note: I made 2 mistakes on the November calendar…1) I forgot to put Abby’s birthday which is on the 10th -I’m sorry Abby- and 2) the letters are off by a week. Next week is letter C, the week of the 11th we will focus on letter O, no letter focus Thanksgiving week and the last week our letter focus will be Q.
