Themes: Our themes this week were: Penguins, Prayer, Polar Bears and Planets

Reading/Writing/Drawing: We read: Cool Penguins, The Pout Pout Fish, Planets and Alphatales: The Pigs Picnic. We learned to identify, sound and write P-start with a big line down, then lift crayon and go back to the top for a little curve down to the middle. The Zoophonic for letter P is: p—penguin (peewee penguin): stiffen both arms at the sides of your body (hands up) and do a penguin walk, waddling from side to side while sustaining the “P” sound.  For drawing practice, the class drew four pictures starting with the letter P for our drawing journals.

Science/Math Skills: Our science this week was on penguins, planets and precipitation. Did you know that penguins can live to be 20 years old and that Pluto is no longer considered a planet in our solar system? After learning about precipitation, we enjoyed a visit from Rob Fowler, Chief Meteorologist for Channel 2 News. I hope you were able to catch up on the news! In math, your children continue to work on counting by ones and tens as well as number recognition.

Devotion: Our devotion this week was about patience. We read the “Patient Penguins” from our devotion book. The class learned that just like the father penguin patiently awaits for the egg to hatch…never leaving the egg-not even to eat…God reminds us that when we are patient, we are showing love. 1 Corinthians 13:4A Love is patient and kind.

Our February class calendar came home Friday in your child’s class folder. Please take a glance for upcoming dates and events in February. Next week we will celebrate Letter B. Have a great weekend! Go Patriots!!! 🙂

Joyfully,

Ms. Erin
