Hello School Families! First I would like to welcome Eliza and her family to our class! Eliza is a wonderful addition to our school family and all the kids in our class have made her feel welcome.
Reading/Writing/Drawing: We read the books: Humpty Dumpty After the Fall, Hide and Seek Hippo, and The Perfect Hug. Throughout letter H week we completed all the HWT steps/tools and each child can now add the letter H to those they can write! To practice at home, remind your child to write the letter H by starting at the top and make 1) big line down 2) big line down 3) Little line in the middle. We continue to practice our drawing skills in our journal. The class drew four things that start with the letter “H” and also drew a picture of their favorite habitat.
Science: We had multiple lessons on Habitats which included a great science video from National Geographic Kids.
Math/Skills: We practice daily counting by ones and tens and will incorporate counting by fives in future. The class is also working on developing their patterning and sequencing skills.
Devotion: Honor your Father and your mother. Exodus 20:12
This week was terrific with letter T! Our themes were: tigers, time, trucks, triangles/ten (math) and trees. As I may have mentioned to some of you this letter of the week focus can get addicting! I find myself talking in circles with only words that begin with our weekly letter! It tends to make one tongue-tied (see what I mean!)
Reading/Writing/Drawing: We read:Tigers, When Tily Turtle Came to Tea, Tooth Trouble and Pumpkin Town. To make the letter “T, we start in the middle and draw a big line down then little line across at the top. Our Zoophonics for “T” is: Timothy Tiger says “Tuh, Tuh, Tuh”.
Science/Math: We learned many interesting tiger facts for science this week. The tiger is the largest wild cat; it enjoys hunting for meals alone versus in a pack and is nocturnal. We learned more about the four seasons and how the trees change during each one. The class decorated trees to represent each season. We practiced counting to ten by 1’s and to 100 by 10’s.
Devotion: We read “Three-Toed Patience” from the Five Minute Devotions for Children book. The class learned that it’s not always easy to be patient but God promises us that if we are patient, he will help us grow in ways that are safe. Psalm 40:1
Next week we will celebrate letter I. A couple of reminders…Original Artwork orders are due next Thursday and our class Harvest Party is the 31st at 11:30 (no costumes please). Have a great weekend!
Joyfully,
Ms. Erin
