Our first unit was farm animals. We painted a pig and a chick. We had a farm table top filled with animals and a tractor. At circle time we used animal magnets to make a chart. We had to figure out which animals belonged on a farm and which ones lived in the wild. At story time we read Giggle, Giggle, Quack. The letters we worked on were U and T. We made an umbrella, a tree, and a train. Our next unit was community helpers. We colored fire badges, made postcards, and drove our fire truck. We set up stations to be construction workers, doctors who cared for sick babies, railroad engineers, and mail carriers (who delivered the postcards we made). Since the season has moved into fall, we painted fall leaves and read the book Fall Leaves. At circle time we talked about the different colors the leaves change to. We each had leaves that “fell from our tree” and we had to find a match to the color we had.
