This week was all about the letter P.  We read If You Give A Pig A Pancake, The Pout Pout Fish, The Pigs’ Picnic and I Don’t Like Peas.

We learned about penguins and planets. Did you know that penguins do not fly they have flippers to help them swim. They spend half their time in the water and half their time on land. We also learned about planets. There are 8 planets in our solar system. Pluto is no longer considered a planet. It is now a “dwarf planet”. The children made their own planets. They named each of their planets. We learned who lived on their planets and how we would get to their planets. Some planets we could get to by car others by plane and rocket ships.

We learned to identify, sound and write P-start with a big line down, then hop to the top for a little curve down to the middle. The Zoophonic for letter P is: p—penguin peewee penguin: you can be peewee penguin by stiffening both arms at the sides of your body (hands up) and do a penguin walk.

We had a visit from Rob Fowler, Chief Meteorologist for News Channel 2 . We always enjoy Mr. Fowler’s visits. He brought some of the equipment that he uses each day to help him predict the weather, tells us a story and reads a book. The kids love blowing into the  anemometer, an instrument used for measuring wind speed.
