Jesus…..the Greatest Gift!

We’ve had a great couple of weeks learning all about Jesus and how God sent him into the world as a baby, so that He could be our king, the savior of the world. Our story started where the angel appeared to Mary and told her she was going to have a son, God’s son that would be the Savior of the world and she was to name him Jesus. We talked about how Mary must have felt – afraid, excited, happy. An angel also appeared to Joseph and told him this same news and that he was to make Mary his wife through marriage. We then saw where Mary and Joseph had to go to Bethlehem, where they were born, to be counted for the census – Mary was due to have her baby soon and there was nowhere for them to stay.  But the innkeeper let them stay in a stable. On this very special night, baby Jesus was born in a place hardly fit for a king, with all the animals around. But Jesus had come to serve and not be served. Mary and Joseph laid their special baby in a manger and named him Jesus, which means Emmanuel (God with us). That same night there was a special star that shone brighter than any of the other stars. God had put it in the sky when his baby son was born, so that it could guide the way for everyone to come and see him. Angels appeared to shepherds tending their sheep and told them to not be afraid – “Baby Jesus is here, go and see him.” The shepherds dropped what they were doing and followed the star to Bethlehem, found the stable, and knelt down and worshipped baby Jesus – the newborn king. Three wise men also visited baby Jesus and brought him special, really expensive gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. I’m sure you’ve been hearing our Christmas songs at home, as we have been hard at work practicing for our program. It will be held in the Lighthouse Worship Center Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 9:30 AM. I assure you we will present to you the cutest nativity you have ever seen, complete with shepherds, angels, wise men and all the animals. See pics below of our students enjoying chapel and practicing for our performance.  See if they can tell you the “Best thing about Christmas” and share their December bible verse with you. Today in the town of Bethlehem a savior has been born. He is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11.
