It is hard to believe that we have entered the Christmas season!  Here is an overview of December.

Our theme is Baby Jesus’s birthday.

Our Bible verse is Luke 2:10-11- But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.  Today in the town of Bethlehem a Savior has been born to you: he is Christ the Lord.”

The units we will study are gingerbread men, Christmas trees, and Baby Jesus’s birth.

Handwriting– Since December is a short month, we will work on two letters, K and L.  Please send in pictures or items that start with these letters each week.  Continue to work on writing first names.

I will send the Book Report books and forms home in January.  I am sending home a Christmas mini-book that they can read to you or with you.

Reading– We will read many Christmas stories about sharing and Baby Jesus’s birth.  We will do some fun activities with the story, The Gingerbread Man.  We are going to read different versions of The Gingerbread Man and compare and contrast them.  We will taste gingerbread and graph who likes it and who doesn’t like it.  We will make gingerbread men out of playdough and decorate gingerbread men.  We will also write a gingerbread man story and choose an animal to chase the gingerbread man.  We may even search for the gingerbread man in our room!  And we’ll have some gingerbread girls too!

Science– This month we will study the five senses.  We will do an experiment with candy canes and see who likes the taste of gingerbread.  This should be a fun science unit to study at Christmas time!

Math– We continue to work on numbers 0-10 .  Please practice writing numbers or counting when you can.  We will also be adding and telling time to the nearest hour.

Important Dates– Happy birthday to Miss Molly on December 29.

Our Christmas program is on Wednesday, December 19, at 9:30.  We will say Happy Birthday to Jesus and K-5 will act out the nativity scene.

Our Christmas party will follow the Christmas program on Wednesday, Dec. 20.  Please come to our classroom after the program to enjoy some Christmas treats with us and celebrate Jesus’s birthday.

We are looking forward to all of these activities with your children and wish you many blessings during this joyous Christmas season.
