Devotion: Our S scripture was Isaiah 55:6. We must seek the Lord in His Word. Jesus is the treasure we find in God’s word. We also read about a selfish bird. Ask your child to tell you about the bird that is selfish and how we talked about the importance of being unselfish, which is the life of a bucket filler!
Books We Read: My Little S Book, Snowmen at Night, Seal’s Silly Sandwich, Sneezy The Snowman, Blizzards, and The Very Busy Spider.
Science: We watched a preschool science video on how snow is formed. Did you know that snowflakes are frozen ice crystals that form together? We even had a snowball fight (using giant marshmallows). See pictures below, they had a blast! We also learned a little about snakes, seahorses, and spiders.
Math: We counted by 1’s and 10’s. The children also sorted and graphed skittles, you can imagine how much they enjoyed that!
HWT: We used two small curves to form the letter S. Our letters each week build upon the last letter so it’s important to learn how to write the letter each week. S was a hard one because the top half of S is a small curve or magic c. The bottom half of S is a backwards small curve or c. Have them show you how we learned to write S and practice it, if they want to. They also highlighted the upper case and lower case S in a poem about a silly snowman named Sam.
Drawing: The children drew pictures of things that start with the letter S. We drew everything from snowmen to snakes.
Journal: After reading the book Snowmen At Night, the children drew a picture of what their snowman would do at night ( we sure did wish it would snow in Mt. Pleasant again)!
The children did so well coming back from Christmas break! We have started to work on some important skills needed for kindergarten like clapping out symbols in words, rhyming, beginning and ending sounds, and reading 3 and 4 letter words.
We are also working on listening well while others are talking and raising their hands to talk during circle time.
