Devotion: Our Q scripture was Ephesians 4:31. Quarreling, harsh words, and dislike of others should have no place in your lives. Our devotions this week were spent talking about why we celebrate Christmas.
Books We Read: My Little Q Book, The Quite Quail, The Christmas Gift, and The Christmas Story.
Science: We talked about Quarts. Did you know that Milky Quartz owes its clouded appearance to tiny pockets of liquid or vapor trapped within the mineral? It’s also one of the most common minerals on earth. They got to hold quartz, as well as, crystals and geodes and looked at them through a magnifying glass. The children also learned a little about Quails and got to hold a real quail feather. We also watched a few short videos on the Smartboard of Quails.
Math: The class counted by 1’s up to 47 and by 10’s to 100. The children learned that a quarter is worth 25 cents and we counted by 25’s to 100. They did a quarter rubbing in centers to reinforce what they learned.
HWT: We used two big curves and one little line to form the letter Q. We formed the letter Q in many different ways with our HWT manipulatives. We learned that Q is “married” to U and looked at Q words to see that it’s true. We finished the week by tracing the letter Q. We also highlighted the upper case and lower case Q in a poem.
Drawing: We drew pictures of things beginning with Q. They drew everything from quilts to quails!
Journal: The children drew a picture about their Thanksgiving.
