Devotion:  We read devotions with animals that begin with the letter H such as Hippos,  Horses, and Helpful Honkers (Geese). We learned a little about each animal and how they teach us about God. We also integrate science into the devotion we are reading by learning lots of interesting facts about the animal. Ask your child why geese are called Helpful Honkers!

Books We Read: My Little H Book, Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash, and Humpty Dumpty and Other Nursery Rhymes.

Science: After the Firefighters left, we did a quick science experiment on how fire needs 3 things to burn…….heat, fuel, and air. If you take the air away from the fire, it will go out. This showed them how important stop, drop, and roll is. See picture below. We planned to talk about Habitats and the animals that live in them on Thursday. Since there is no school due to the hurricane, we will try next week. There are several super cool videos on habitats, they will love watching them!

Math: We counted by 1’s and 10’s using our 100th day marble jar. We use math skills in many different ways through the day!

HWT: We used two big lines and one little line to form the letter H. We formed the letter in many different ways and finished the week by tracing it. We are also working hard on names using upper case letters for now. They also highlighted the letter H in a poem about hippos.

Journal: The children would have drawn their favorite habitat on Thursday. We will try to do that next week.

Drawing: Each week we draw four things that start with the letter of the week. They would have done that on Thurday so I told them that I would send it home with them to do. I also told them that if they brought it back in for me to see, I would give them a treat.

We really enjoyed our visit with the Firefighters! They learned a lot and I hope the email I sent out about some of the things they taught us will help you talk about fire safety at home and what to do in case of an emergency! See more pictures below.

Class room pictures were taken today during a game called Sleeping Children…….ask them how you play that game!
