Devotion: We read the book Eggbert, The Slightly Cracked Egg. It is a wonderful story about an egg with a slightly cracked shell who tries to hide who he is by painting himself so that his crack won’t show. He finally learns not to hide his cracked shell but to be proud of it. We talked about how perfectly and wonderfully made by God we are and that we can love our differences and not have to hide who He made us to be.
Books we read: My Little E book, Ellisor The Elephant, The Enormous Elephant Show, Elmer,Emma’s Pet, Earth, and Eggbert, The Slightly Cracked Egg. We also put out a variety of books with either titles or subjects that begin with the letter each week.
Science: We learned all about planet Earth. We watched a video on the Smartboard about our wonderful planet, which was really awesome, ask your child to tell you about it!! We also read a really great book about Earth with all kinds of cool facts! Did you know Earth is called the blue planet because over 70% of Earth is covered in water. They learned that it takes a year for Earth to revolve around the sun and that one full revolution is a day and night (24 hour period).
Math: We learned about Estimation and then we put it into practice by estimating objects in a clear jar. They really understood the concept and became really great “estimaters”! We also watched Sid The Science Kid explain estimation on the Smartboard.
HWT: We used one big line and three little lines to form the letter E. We formed the letter in many different ways and finished the week by tracing and writing it in their workbooks. We also highlighted the upper and lowercase E in a poem, there were 16 in all! We also touched on the idea of syllables as we clapped out the syllables in each child’s name.
Drawing: The children drew pictures of things that begin with the letter E! They drew everything from elephants to earrings.
Journal: After reading the book Elmer, they decorated an elephant to show how they would look in an Elmer’s day parade.
Next week will be all about the letter H……Have a super great weekend!
