Devotion: We talked about nice beginning with the letter N and how we can put being nice into practice! We also read a devotion about a night owl. It taught us that even though sometimes we get frightened at night or in the dark, God is always with us!
Books We Read: My Little N Book, The Nicest Newt, The Nose Book, and The Napping House. We worked on sequencing the story of The Napping House after reading the book and also at center time.
Science: The children learned about some super cool animals that begin with a N, like the Night Owl and the Narwhal. Did you know that the “horn” on the narwhal is actually it’s front left tooth? We also watched a time lapse of a bird building its nest…… it was fascinating!
Math: We counted by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s up to 100. We also sorted coins and learned the value of each!
HWT: Three big lines form the letter N. We used the HWT manipulatives to help us learn how to form the letter, and also practiced writing it a few times. They highlighted the upper case and lower case N in a poem…… 14 in all!
Drawing: The children drew pictures of things that begin with N. They drew everything from nests to necklaces.
With Saint Patrick’s day being Saturday, the children learned a little about the holiday and why we celebrate it! They learned about Saint Patrick and how he led the people of Ireland to God by using the shamrock or clover. It was also believed that he drove out all the snakes and frogs from Ireland too. We learned that Leprechauns are a folk tale and are much like fairies – but some of the kiddos believe that they are real and even know someone who has caught one before! We decide to make a Leprechaun trap to see if we could catch one in the classroom. see pictures below!
