Happy Friday Parents,

Ms. Janine and I hope to see you all over the weekend at the LCLC Hot Diggity Oyster Roast Saturday-it is always a fun event! Below is a recap of our last two weeks in class with letters A and M…

All About Letter A Week

Themes: American Alligators, Apples, Ants, Astronauts & the Armor of God!

Reading/Writing/Drawing: We read: Zack’s Alligator, The Adventures of Abby Alligator, The Armor of God, Johnny Appleseed, and Ant’s Day Off.  One of our biggest achievements this week was learning to write the hardest letter in the alphabet-A! I was amazed at how awesome our “A’s” looked by weeks end! We had fun drawing pictures of things that start with “A” in our drawing journals.

Devotion: We spent some time this week learning about the Armor of God. After learning what that means, we all put on our Armor and even made an adorable craft to show how God has equipped us for daily challenges.

Science/Math/Skills: Our science this week was all about alligators and apples. Ask your child how you can tell the difference between an alligator and a crocodile? We had fun making an American Alligator craft for our Creation Books.  We learned about the different parts of the apple as well: flesh, core, seeds and stem. Did you know that when placed in water apples will float because they are mostly made of air?

Letter M Week:

Themes: Missy Mouse, Meerkats and Magnets

Reading/Writing/Drawing: We read: Monkey’s Miserable Monday, The Mitten Miss Mouse’s Day as well as many Dr. Seuss books!  We drew a Mat Man masterpiece in our drawing journals  (Mat Man is part of the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum and is a tool to help develop our pre-reading and writing skills) and are now able to write, recognize and sound the letter M.

Devotion: Devotion this week was from the book “Five Minute Devotions for Children” and was about Masked Meerkats. We learned that meerkats live in large groups (like families) and everyone works together to stay safe, find food and ensure the whole group is happy and healthy. Meerkats are wonderful helpers! We discussed ways we could be wonderful helpers to our families and friends too. We know it pleases God when we aren’t selfish and help the people around us.

Science/Math/Skills: Our science was all about magnets! We experimented with how magnets interact with each other. I explained that a magnet has two sides, called positive and negative, and that the opposite sides pull together. We had fun discovering magnetic vs non magnetic items and feeling the pull/push of the magnetic field-super cool! Our math focus was money (coins) and learning the value of each coin.

Next week we will celebrate Letter N.

Joyfully,

Ms. Erin
